Antique Engine Turned Tray #2

This antique tray features an engine turned pattern, and is lovely as a serving tray or as a beautiful place to keep the treasures on your vanity!

  • 14" diameter.
  • Silver-plate.
  • Origin:Sheffield,England.
  • Sourced by Plum in England.

Engine Turning is an increasingly scarce mechanized engraving technique used to cut intricate geometric patterns. At the peak of it's popularity, it was used to engrave items from watch cases to mirror compacts, and of course, trays! It was used extensively from the late 18th century right up to the early 20th, and is now a skill used by only a few master craftspeople.

This particular tray is also engraved in the centre with a crest of a serpent with a crown above.

Part of the beauty of antiques are their character and imperfections we have done our best to describe them. We hope you appreciate their patina as much as we do, please feel free to contact us with any questions.
